20 Years of MOSI’s Einstein Food & Wine

The Museum of Science & Industry will host its 20th annual Einstein on Food & Wine on Jan. 17, 2015. This celebration of the senses highlights the delicious and diverse cuisine of Tampa Bay, alongside the palate pleasers of winemakers from around the country. The event is ideal for anyone who enjoys wine, food, music and supporting a worthy cause through a silent auction. Additionally, all proceeds from this event enable MOSI to fulfill its mission of making science real for people of all ages and backgrounds.

MOSIThe event begins at 8 p.m., but those with VIP tickets will be granted early access beginning at 7 p.m. ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, the host sponsor, will feature more than 120 vintners with a variety of wines, including reds, whites, and champagnes, domestic and imported. Delicious food and desserts from more than 30 different local restaurants will be featured including BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, Bubbaque’s, Anise Gastrobar, The Cooks Club of Tampa Bay, The Revolution Ice Cream, Sausage Laboratory, Turtle Beach Natural Foodservice, Evo’s, Miller’s Tasty Treats, Blue Bell Creameries, Benedetto’s, Melina International Trading Co., Cassie’s Cookies, Organo Gold OG Café Ladies, Urban Tea Gardens, and Urban Juice Company along with a variety of food trucks like Not Your Ordinary Food Truck and beer provided by Brew Bus Brewing, Bastet Brewing, Coppertail Brewing and World of Beer. In addition to the array of food and wine, a silent auction will be held with proceeds to benefit MOSI’s educational programs.

In an effort to highlight the evening’s true purpose, MOSI’s S.T.E.A.M.punks will be showcasing their random acts of science throughout the museum, the same experiments they employ to help children learn the wonder of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (S.T.E.A.M.). This event will also feature roaming Einsteins, Ghostbusters, Roller Derby girls, the Tampa Bay Squad of the 501st Legion – the Star Wars Imperial costuming organization and much more. 

Guests who purchase a VIP ticket will receive an exclusive opportunity to sample some of the most premier wines and indulge in Tampa Bay’s top restaurant tastings which will be offered an hour early at 7 p.m. in MOSI’s “Wintery Wonderland VIP Lounge.” Additionally, Blake Herndon, Ritz Carlton’s Highball & Harvest’s Lead Mixologist, will create handcrafted cocktails infused with seasonal fruits and herbs to the first 100 individuals that secure their VIP experience. His craftsmanship is sure to impress, while also providing education on the essential ingredients and techniques required to create these fresh, tasty spirits that are as inspiring as they are memorable.

Participating restaurants will have their food judged by event guests in a quest to find the best food at Einstein on Food & Wine. Guests will vote for their favorite restaurant by dropping a dollar in their ballot box. The restaurant with the most dollars at the end of the night wins “Fan Favorite.” All proceeds benefit MOSI’s educational offerings and provide scholarships for Tampa Bay’s most underserved youth. Winners will be announced at the close of the silent auction in MOSI’s Grand Lobby by MOSI’s Executive Chef Rene J. Marquis. Chef Marquis, an American Culinary Federation Judge and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, is a retired combat veteran of 21 years. Chef Marquis has appeared on a variety of popular culinary shows, including Alton Brown’s latest show on the Food Network Channel, “Cutthroat Kitchen,” where he finished on top as the winner of Season 1, Episode 7.

Prize categories are as follows:

-First Place will receive $1,000 and a plaque

-Second Place will receive $750 and a plaque

-Third Place will receive $250 and a plaque

-Fan Favorite will receive a plaque and bragging rights

Einstein on Food & Wine tickets are $60 for members, $75 for non-members and $85 when purchased the week of the event. The event begins at 8 p.m. and guests must be 21 years or older to attend. VIP tickets can be purchased for $125, which includes early access to Einstein on Food & Wine at 7 p.m. and access to the VIP lounge featuring exclusive wines, food vendors and Blake Herndon’s handcrafted cocktails.
